Silicone vs Acrylic vs Aluminum Roof Coatings
Three systems, three price points, three sets of trade-offs. Here is how to pick.
More Than One Way to Protect Your Roof
We install all three, so we have no reason to talk you into the expensive one. Which coating is right comes down to three things: whether your roof holds standing water, what it is made of, and how long you plan to own the building. The table below gives you every number we would give you standing on your roof.
Side-by-Side Comparison
Every system below is applied to its manufacturer's published specification and carries a manufacturer-backed warranty. Prices are installed, per square foot.

Why Silicone Leads for Most Flat Roofs
It is the system we recommend most often. Here are the four reasons why — including the one that counts against it.
The Ponding Water Problem
Flat roofs pond. That is what flat means. Acrylic softens and re-emulsifies where water sits for days; silicone is unaffected by it. If your roof holds water after a storm, this one fact settles the question.
Texas Heat Is Brutal
A dark Texas roof can reach 160°F in August, then drop 60 degrees overnight. Membranes expand, contract, and eventually split. Silicone stays flexible through that cycle year after year without chalking or shrinking.
Longest Warranty Available
Manufacturers write 20-year warranties on silicone and 5–10 year warranties on acrylic. They are the ones who pay if it fails — which makes that gap the most honest durability rating in the industry.
Best Long-Term Value
Silicone costs roughly twice what acrylic costs up front, and that is a real drawback. But acrylic can need recoating inside ten years, and a second mobilization, prep and spray costs far more than the original difference. On a building you intend to keep, silicone is the cheaper roof by about year twelve.
